NAME
The name Globaïa is made out of two other words, "global" et "Gaia".
Gaia was the primordial mother goddess of the land in ancient Greek cosmology. This name is itself made out of two words: [Ge], originating the Sumerian, for "Earth" and [Aia], derived from Indo-European, for "grandmother". It emphasizes on the meaningful and emotional relationship we have to reinvent between the Earth and our societies.
Adding "global" gives a modern meaning, the fact that the Earth is round having been ignored by our ancestors.

LOGO
The "o" is a blue marble, a reminder of the famous picture of our planet taken during the Apollo 17 mission, in December 1972. This first beautiful image of the Earth has influenced generations and corresponds to the awakening of the global environmental movement. Two lines illustrate the Equator and the Polar Circle, highlighting the fact that the Sun's energy is unevenly distributed on Earth, forming its climate and determining its biosphere. The logo also comprises a butterfly with the umlaut of the "i" and the reversal of the last "a", illustration of the fragility and beauty of life.

VISION
Globaïa was born of an urgency. Urgency to understand, urgency to act.

We believe that an education to global citizenship, to global issues and to the state of our planet may contribute to help make this world a better place than it is right now. Huge challenges are awaiting us and denial cannot continue any longer. The changing climate, the biodiversity crisis and the growing gap between rich and poor are problems we must urgently address on a global scale.

Our era is one of great diagnostics. International teams of scientists and thinkers of every domains a working in synergy to take the pulse of our planet and to foresee what our future is going to be like. While these activities are drawing a portrait of Humanity and the Biosphere with unprecedented details, many thresholds in the Earth's system are about to be crossed, threatening the very equilibrium on which civilizations relied on for millenniums.

With today's context, Globaïa offers an expertise to communicate and raise awareness on our world trajectory in order to spread a significant and holistic global picture. We hope to touch people's sensitivity because this is where meaning lies. We hope to raise consciousness because this feature make our specie unique and adaptive. We hope to inform to fight against ignorance.

The Anthropocene has begun.
To find our way through this maize requires an exceptional vision.
